Lorm Wailer Ochre Avalanche
I seek permission to marry. I have left childhood now. Let me take a wife. Let me honour my lineage by having children who will have their children.
I am Lorm Wailer Ochre Avalanche, educated in accordance with family tradition to be a scribe. I know to carve and to paint and to write. I can support myself and a family.
Lorm is my status, scribe of the middle class.
As a child, I cried. They called me Wailer because of this. But trust me, I have turned my back to all tears and wailings. My name is but a reminder of what I shall not be, what does not honour my ancestors.
They call me Ochre because of my leanings to paint with this. I have decorated walls and caves and statues. I have honoured my ancestors by using the talents they have given me!
Avalanche is my family name. Our forefather lived by the foot of a small mountain. It is said that when he left his humble life as a cattle-herder, an avalanche killed all of his cattle and destroyed his home. He found refuge in a monastery where they found use of his counting skills, taught him to write. He was made scribe and given the name Lorm and Avalanche. You may have heard of him, Lorm Galactophile Changer Avalanche.
Let me find a wife! Let me find work!

Barr Tulip welcomes you, Lorm Avalanche. I have heard the stories of your ancestor. He is well-known and respected for bringing to the Cheltians the joy of cow-tipping.
Your talents will bring honour to the tribe. Our victories, our treasures, our most handsome and beautiful Tribe members must be immortalised. Writing cannot achieve this, for the languages of the world are many and unstable; they are created and collapse with great frequency. But the link with our forefathers is through music and song, through paintings and murals, through works of art that speak of humans and not of words.
Therefore your caste is respected and valued. Paint our tribe ochre. Another of your caste will now stamp your application.
Another Lorm gives Lorm Avalanche half a dried, hollowed-out coconut. Carved into the interior is his full name and recognition of membership in the tribe. A soft metal button has been hammered into it and is stamped with the seal of the Nation.
