As mentioned in the naming thread, Birth status is very important. There are many castes, relating to employment and status:
Upper Class - Of which there are few Chieftain Warrior ("Barr") Priest/Judge ("Char")
Middle Class - Of which there are slightly more Merchant ("Murn") Scribe ("Lorm") Soldier ("Birn") Shipwright/sailor ("Rirn") Bard ("Tirn") Farmer ("Firn") Tailor ("Sirn") Weaponsmith ("Shirn")
Lower Class - Of which there are many Forager ("Lell") Poor ("Nell" - Of no status, includes all non-members of the Tribe except the Barr's Royal Cousins)

The role of several castes have been changing over the years. Since the establishment of the Far Char Lodgment, the number of foreign merchants making contact with the Nation has increased year on year. Different kinds of craft have been introduced and artistry is flourishing.
The Shirn are now working on much more ceremonial armours. The Sirn are creating luxury clothes designed for limited wear and maximal visual effect, incorporating designs and colour schemes from other nations. The Tirn have developed their role beyond just the composition and performance of songs and are working with paints and sculpture, in close connection with other creative casts. The Murn are the primary drive behind these new shifts, providing the finance as consumers and patrons of the arts.
