Foods Yesh: Recently named the national food, Yesh is a hearty blend of cured meat (usually a combination of goat, ham, beef and horse), boiled and mashed potatoes and sweet dates and raisins. It is sometimes served or carried in a large folded leaf, and topped with spices.
Mel: Fish - usually haddock or cod - is shredded and mixed with crushed boiled cabbage, boiled asparagus and sage. This mixture is then fried in egg to form a thick, nutritious omlette.
Drinks White Cheltian: The national drink is a mixture of fresh goat's milk (1 pt) and Water of Life (3 pts), made from distilled fermented grains. It is sometimes sweetened with honey or puréed grapes.
Hoyt: A calming and soothing red-mint tea. Leaves of the red mint plant are crushed and boiled in hot water before being sweetened with sugar and flavoured with either salt in the summer or cinammon in the winter. It is usually made up in huge vats or cauldrons for feasts or other communal meals.
Honey-Wine: In those areas where grapes and honey are available in abundance to the Cheltians, a mixture of honey and water is added to fermented grapes to give a sweet, refreshing alcoholic drink.
